Aug. 11-13, Thursday-Sat, 7pm/Thurs.-Sat, 2pm/Sat, “Can-Can Parisien and Raymonda,” Maine State Ballet brings a little bit of Paris to Maine this summer with its production of Can-Can Parisien. The most raucous and rowdy piece in MSB’s ever-growing repertoire, Can-Can Parisien is set in a fashionable Parisian cabaret, where guests are enjoying the lively nightlife. A wealthy tourist bursts upon the scene, intent on having a good time, and is quite taken with the ladies of Paris! He is particularly smitten with a lovely Glove Seller (who is also admired by a young Baron). A pretty Flower Girl, the Lady in Ruby Red (a reigning beauty), smartly uniformed officers and their chic ladies – all enter into flirtations and jealousies leading to a down-right brawl. Finally, peace is restored and all ill-will dispersed by the vivacious Can-Can! Rounding out the evening is a new take on the classic, Raymonda. Excerpts from the ballet, choreographed by Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele, are set to Glazunov’s superbly delightful score. Along with the exceptional dancing you’ve come to expect from Maine’s premiere ballet company, this performance features new, exquisitely detailed costumes, each one designed and sewn right here in Maine by Associate Director Gail Csoboth. Not to be missed, $17-$23, $2/discount for seniors and children, Maine State Ballet’s Lopez Theater, 348 U.S. Route 1, Falmouth.  FMI:  207-781-7672, www.mainestateballet.org.
