June 30-July 2, Thursday-Saturday, 8pm, “Always…Patsy Cline,” A love letter to miss Patsy Cline featuring over 27 of her songs! You’ll fall to pieces if you miss this brilliant retelling of the legendary singer’s all too short career. Always, Patsy Cline tells the true story of the friendship and pen-pal relationship that developed between Patsy Cline and Houston housewife Louise Seger, her most devoted fan. Louise narrates the story of the day in 1961 when she met Patsy at the Esquire Ballroom. Afterward, Patsy kept in touch with her number one fan by writing her long hand-written letters until the day she died tragically in a plane crash. She signed the letters “(Love) Always, Patsy Cline.” Enjoy…and even sing along…to 27 songs including Sweet Dreams and Walkin’ After Midnight. July 3-4, Sunday-Monday, all day events, “20th Annual Liberty Festival,” The Liberty Festival is an Independence Day celebration along the banks of the Androscoggin River, and it’s uniquely L/A. With a focus on the Great Falls. On Sunday, July 3rd, we will be hosting a Veteran’s Ceremony starting at 7 PM, we will have a flag retirement ceremony, taps, a cannon will be fired, several speakers, and at 8:15 we will be featuring the musical movie 1776. Popcorn and refreshments will be available for purchase… Be sure to bring a chair! On Monday, July 4th, festivities will begin at 6 PM in Lewiston at Veterans Park and in Auburn at Great Falls Plaza. On the Lewiston Stage we will have The Veggies by Day, Robert Washington as “Elvis”, and a special performance by L/A Community Little Theatre. July 5, Tuesday, 7pm, “Village Harmony,” a cappella voices, The 25 sparkling teen singers will present a program of traditional and composed music from Latin America, traditional songs from Lithuania and Corsica, American shape-note songs, sea chanties, lullabies and songs for social change, and Rowan’s and Wilsons original compositions. Village Harmony is an umbrella organization based in Vermont dedicated to the study and performance of ethnic singing traditions from around the world. Each summer they sponsor ten ensembles like this one, both in New England and in numerous foreign countries, involving both teen and adult singers. Each group develops its own unique sound with a different international team of leaders, but all share common traits: a powerful, natural, unrestrained, vocal sound; a remarkable variety of vocal styles and timbres, as appropriate to the many varieties of ethnic and traditional music; and the visible, vibrant community among the singers and audience as they share in a joyous celebration of music, $5-$15, Vienna Union Hall, 5 Vienna Mountain Road, Vienna.
