May 22, Sunday, 2pm, “Shiitake Mushroom Growing Workshop,” fresh shiitake mushrooms can be grown at home in logs if you have a shady spot or woodland. All it takes is some fresh hardwood logs, sawdust spawn or plugs, hot cheese wax, a few basic tools, and patience. Instructor Ben Whatley of Whatley Farm will teach you how to drill, fill, and seal logs with mushroom spawn, and how to care for your logs once you get them home. Participants will each take home 2 four-foot logs (3-5″ diameter), Min. 8 students, max. 14, min. age 14 with or without adult, closed-toed shoes, long pants required.
