May 20, Friday, 8am, “World Fish Migration Day, Kenduskeag Stream Walk,” Downtown Bangor is fortunate enough to have the beautiful Kenduskeag Stream travel right through the center of town, and what better way to celebrate the kick off of World Fish Migration Day than a 4 mile walk along the banks of the Kenduskeag. Led by Fisheries Biologist Pete Ruksznis with Maine Department of Marine Resources, and accompanied by author of The President’s Salmon, Catherine Schmitt, this walk will talk about the biological and historical importance of sea-run fish in the state of Maine, free, Victory Memorial, Norumbegao Parkway, between Franklin and Central Streets, Bangor. May 20, Friday, 6:30pm, “Full Moon Paddle,” almost silently the canoes move along Pushaw Stream, moon beams ripple on the water and nocturnal animals move about. Pushaw Stream is a flat water, slow moving stream. Registration requested, meeting point dependent on group size, free, Hirundo Wildlife Refuge, 1107 West Old Town Road, Old Town. May 20, Friday, 7pm, “Renaissance Singers, Spring Silver Celebration Concert,”part of our year-long celebration of 25 years of making music together! For our spring concert season, we are bringing you a beautiful mix of songs of hope and joy, with music ranging from contemporary to folk and classical. Included in the spring repertoire are pieces from Beethoven, Brahm and Mozart, mixed in with a little Pete Seeger and U2, and a collection of pieces based on the works of poets like Edna St. Vincent Millay and Emily Dickinson. We are exceptionally excited to unveil a song specially commissioned to celebrate our silver anniversary. This contemporary choral piece was created for us by UMaine alumnus Andrew Hirst. “Everyone Sang” is based on the poem by Siegfried Sassoon, written at the end of World War I, First Congregational Church, 35 Church Street, Brewer. May 21, Saturday, 8am-4pm, “Spring Runs at Maine Forest and Logging Museum,” the Blackman Stream Alewife Cross County Run of 3.8-miles, free t-shirts given to first 50 runners, Prizes will be determined based on the runner’s talents but the judges will be creative. The logging road cross country run will support the ongoing community activities at Maine Forest and Logging Museum. All runners will have free admission for the remainder of the day to celebrate the alewife fish migration at the Blackman Stream fish ladder and the firing up of the Lombard steam log hauler, $15/students, $20/all others, Maine Forest and Logging Museum, Route 178-Government Road, Bradley. May 21-22, Saturday-Sunday, 3pm, “Robinson Ballet Presents: Aladdin,” Aladdin is a street urchin who lives in a large and busy town long ago with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace that overlooks the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets Aladdin. Under the orders of the evil Jafar (the sultan’s advisor), Aladdin is thrown in jail and becomes caught up in Jafar’s plot to rule the land with the aid of a mysterious lamp. Legend has it that only a person who is a “diamond in the rough” can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders. May 22, Sunday, 1pm, “Historical Society Mother-Daughter Tea Party,” bring your mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt, niece, friend or babysitter to celebrate with the favorite women in your life. Hot tea, iced tea, lemonade and assorted tea cakes and goodies will be on the menu. Wear a favorite party dress, and if you like, hats and gloves.
