Sex therapist, Leonora Rabinowitz does, and she’s going to bring sixty-something Jane and her tightly wound daughter Valerie to a new level of understanding- just not the kind they thought they were after. Feb. 26, Friday, 7pm, “Magic Night at Firehouse Arts,” Firehouse Arts kicks off a new performance series featuring professional magicians from Maine, New England, and beyond. The fourth Friday of every month is MAGIC NIGHT at Firehouse Arts. Friday, February 26, Host Michael Trautman welcomes Master Magician and Storyteller Leland Faulkner and his WORLD OF WONDER. Mr. Faulkner is well known in Maine and around the world for his creative use of magic, hand-shadows, and zany characters. Audiences will get the chance to see live performances by professional magicians in an intimate studio theater where there is only a few feet between you and the artist, $12, Firehouse Arts, 20 Center St, Yarmouth. Feb. 26, Friday, 8pm, “Horns-a-Plenty,” the USM School of Music presents faculty member and Portland Symphony Orchestra principal horn John Boden in a program featuring the best solo works for horn by Paul Hindemith (1895-1963), including the wonderful Sonata for Four Horns (1952). Hindemith created wonderful variety in these four works, while using his familiar harmonic and rhythmic language the composer called “Gebrauchsmusik,” which translates as “Music for Use” or “Practical Music.” While the music is tonal, and resolves in a way that confirms a central tone, it may be better described as “extended tonality,” visiting an ingenious blend of sounds and rhythms along the way, $15, $10/seniors, Corthell Concert Hall, USM, 37 College Ave, Gorham. Feb. 26, Friday, 8pm, “Rustic Overtones,” Maine calls Rustic their own, but they have had national success as well. Their hard to pigeonhole sound mixed of rock/jazz/funk is fueled by the strong vocals of Dave Gutter and a unique and driving horn section. Feb. 27, Saturday, 6:30pm, “When I Snap My Fingers,” presented by Fryeburg Academy Theatre 2016 One Act, Simon and Maria Moffat agree to undergo hypnosis as part of performer Sven Gali’s act when a fire alarm sounds before Sven has had a chance to remove the effect of certain trigger words. The following day Simon has invited his boss Dan and Dan’s wife Dolly round for dinner in the hope of salvaging his foundering accountancy career. Feb. 27, Saturday, 8pm, “Don Katlin, Jewell Clark and Friends,” this wonderful duo offers something for everyone: Country and Folk to Blues and Rock-n-Roll, spiced with originals here and there. And of course, there’ll be some “yodeling,” an art Jewell inherited from her Dad, Yodeling Slim Clark. She is an award-winning performer with incredible diversity in her voice and expression, with yodeling expertise and an extremely authentic spirit you can feel in her music.
