Dec. 11, Friday, 8pm, “Funehashi/Pane Piano Duo Concert,” the Pane/Funahashi Duo brings a fresh take on the duo piano repertoire with an original transcription of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite and an arrangement of the Poulenc Concerto for Two Pianos. Also featured on the program is R-Motion: Drosera, a work for two pianos and interactive electronics, written for the duo by composer Jonathan Hallstrom, faculty member at Colby College. From 11am-4pm, experience Christmas in the 19th century and participate in living history activities around this beautiful and tranquil estate. Activities include wagon rides, caroling, period crafts, storytelling, parlor games, cooking in the farmer’s cottage, the one-room schoolhouse and tours of the decorated 1867 Washburn family Italianate mansion. Dec. 12, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Music for a Medieval Christmas,” performed by the Calderwood Consort in costume on replica period instruments. Part 1 features the Christmas story narrated in middle English with printed text for the audience to follow. Dec. 12-13, Saturday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Sat, 2:30pm/Sun, “Greater Freeport Community Chorus: Visions of Hope-Winter Concert,” The concert will include works by English composers, as well as Jewish choral pieces. The event also will feature Jay Zoller’s accompaniment of the 75-member chorus on pipe organ. Director Virgil Bozeman leads the singers, with piano accompaniment by Kellie Moody. On the program is “Christmas Day,” a 1910 arrangement of carols by Gustav Holst, who was a prolific English composer, arranger, teacher and performer. Another major piece will be organist and composer Samuel S. Wesley’s “The Wilderness and the Solitary Place,” an 1832 setting of biblical text that speaks of blessings and joy. Organist Zoller will accompany both of these pieces. A resident of Newcastle, Zoller is the organist for the South Parish Congregational Church in Augusta. Music from the Jewish choral tradition will include a setting by David Burger of the Naftali Imber poem that ultimately became the Israeli national anthem, “Hatikvah (The Hope),” $10, $25/max per family, Congregational Church, 282 Main St, Cumberland.
