Dec. 3, Thursday, 6pm, “Oceanside East Concert Chorus and Honors Chorus,” will sing songs of hope, love, and timeless change, these students have prior experience singing in a group, and a desire to continue making music with others at the high school level. The music spans nearly a millennium, from 14th century Germany to 21st century America. Songs will include “April Is In My Mistress’ Face” (circa 1580, Thomas Morely), “Peace on Earth” (1971, Carl Strommen), “Remember” (2002, Christina Rossetti, Stephen Chatman), “Keep Your Lamps” (2007, traditional spiritual, arranged by Victor C. Johnson), “You Are The New Day” (1992; John David) and “Sing With Joy” (Personent Hodie, traditional, 14th century German, arranged C 1999) Accompanist will be Charles Brown, music director of the Nativity Lutheran Church, free, Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St, Rockland. Dec. 4-5, Friday-Saturday, 4-6pm/Fri, 10am-4pm/Sat, “Searsport’s Christmas Extravaganza,” at 5:30 pm the Town of Searsport will light its Christmas tree on the Crescent, inaugurating the holiday season with a weekend of celebrations, the Penobscot Marine Museum Sea Captain’s house will be open to the public, with each room decorated for a Victorian Christmas. The Museum Store will host six Maine authors including Hampden novelist Ardeana Hamlin and children’s book author and illustrator Douglas Coffin. Also in the Museum Store the red velvet dress designed by Edith Head for Rosemary Clooney in the 1954 movie White Christmas, and Victorian and nautical-themed Christmas Gingerbread scenes will be on display. Refreshments will be served. On Saturday, December 5, from 10:oo am to 4;00 pm the Museum’s Sea Captain’s House, part of the Searsport Historic Society House Tour, will host live music performances from 10 am to noon by Ralph Stanley and his fiddle group, and from 2 pm to 3 pm by an ensemble from the Pen Bay Singers. At 1:00 pm and at 3:00 pm, Katie Hassler, Librarian Carver Library will read 19th Christmas favorites. The First Congregational Church will be open for tours of this historic building with spectacular stained glass windows and refreshments will be served. The Searsport Historical Society House Tour is Saturday, December 5, from 10:00 am to 4;00 pm. The tour includes eight 19th century Searsport homes, beautifully decorated for Christmas. Dec. 4-5, Friday-Saturday, 6-9pm/Fri, 6-8:30pm/Sat, “Walk Through Bethlehem 2015,” imagine a bustling 8,000-plus square foot village with merchants, townspeople, artisans and dozens of live animals. Follow as a centurion leads you to the shepherd’s field’s where angels appear with the Good News and Gabriel announces to Mary the son she will give birth to. Stroll through the city and get up-close and personal with more than 80 costumed cast members as they re-create the city of Bethlehem as it might have been on the night of Jesus’ birth.
