Oct. 1, Thursday, 7pm, “Club d’Elf and Tom Ulichny,” Internationally acclaimed Club d’Elf from Boston comes to the Strand Theatre performing a mix of world groove, fusion jazz, and Moroccan trance. Opening for d’Elf is local artist Tom Ulichny playing his signature blend of world percussion and slide guitar. Russ Davis of Jazz America says of Club d’Elf: “[They are] one of the most inventive and ever-changing bands in all of new jazz…The songs are great, the playing superb, the variety obvious but the main thing is that the spirit of the music is so strong and unique. Oct. 2, Friday, 7:30pm, “Mainely Improv-On the Spot Comedy,” Mainely Improv makes you laugh and gets you involved in the show. The comedy troupe brings its madcap antics to the Orion Performing Arts Center. The performers improvise hysterical comedy right before your eyes. Comic situations are based entirely on audience suggestions. Great fun for the whole family! Oct. 2-4, Friday-Sunday, 8pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sun, “Scorched,” The Theater Project in Brunswick will present the Maine premiere of “Scorched”, by Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad, and translated by Linda Gaboriau. Set during Lebanon’s civil war in the 1970s and 1980s, “Scorched” has been called “powerful”, “haunting”, and “a beautifully penned story that paves a path to a mother’s unspeakable pain”. Thematically similar to the Greek tragedies, in particular the Oedipus cycle, “Scorched” was written and originally produced in French as “Incendies”. The play opened in Montreal, and the English translation received its East Coast premiere in Philadelphia in 2009, pay-what-you-want, The Theater Project, 14 School St, Brunswick. Oct. 3, Saturday, 91m-4pm, “Spotlight on the Patch,” enjoy a day of traditional “back on the family farm” events. During the course of the day you will have the opportunity to observe sheep herding and shearing demonstrations, alpacas and goats; K9 unit, therapy dogs, shelter pets to adopt, Hearts Ever Young (H.E.Y.) song and tap dancing show, and to take Merengue, Salsa and Cumbia dance lessons.
