Sept. 24, Thursday, 5-8pm, “Wiscasset Art Walk,” celebrate changing seasons, welcome autumn with a stroll through beautiful and historical Wiscasset Village. Park your car and visit exquisite galleries and stunning shops. Antique your way through town, watch artisan demos, sip wines, and explore the local history. Bask in the early dusk as it descends over the Sheepscot River while you munch your lobster roll on the Pier. Sept. 25, Friday, 7:30pm, “Eileen Ivers,” Eileen Ivers will change the way you think about the violin. Grammy awarded, Emmy nominated, London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, guest starred with over 40 orchestras, original Musical Star of Riverdance, Nine Time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, Sting, Hall and Oates, The Chieftains, ‘Fiddlers 3′ with Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and Regina Carter, Patti Smith, Al Di Meola, Steve Gadd, founding member of Cherish the Ladies, movie soundtracks including Gangs of New York, performed for Presidents and Royalty worldwide…this is a short list of accomplishments, headliners, tours, and affiliations. Fiddler Eileen Ivers has established herself as the pre-eminent exponent of the Irish fiddle in the world today. It is a rare and select grade of spectacular artists whose work is so boldly imaginative and clearly virtuosic that it alters the medium. It has been said that the task of respectfully exploring the traditions and progression of the Celtic fiddle is quite literally on Eileen Ivers’ shoulders. Sept. 25-27, Friday-Sunday, 8pm/Fri and Sat, 2pm/Sun, “Scorched,” The Theater Project in Brunswick will present the Maine premiere of “Scorched”, by Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad, and translated by Linda Gaboriau. Set during Lebanon’s civil war in the 1970s and 1980s, “Scorched” has been called “powerful”, “haunting”, and “a beautifully penned story that paves a path to a mother’s unspeakable pain”. Thematically similar to the Greek tragedies, in particular the Oedipus cycle, “Scorched” was written and originally produced in French as “Incendies”. The play opened in Montreal, and the English translation received its East Coast premiere in Philadelphia in 2009, pay-what-you-want, The Theater Project, 14 School St, Brunswick.
