Sept. 24, Thursday, 7pm, “The Beaux Stratagem,” Simon Godwin (Man and Superman) directs George Farquhar’s wild comedy of love and cash. The ‘Beaux’: Mr Aimwell and Mr Archer, two charming, dissolute young men who have blown their fortunes in giddy London. Shamed and debt-ridden, they flee to provincial Lichfield. Their ‘Stratagem’: to marry for money. Lodged at the local inn, posing as master and servant, they encounter a teeming variety of human obstacles: a crooked landlord, a fearsome highwayman, a fervent French Count, a maid on the make, a drunken husband, a furious butler, a natural healer and a strange, turbulent priest. But their greatest obstacle is love. With the power and persistence of the freight trains that echoed throughout this youth, he sang of love and loneliness, faith and family, slips and salvation. Sept. 27, Sunday, 8:30-11:30pm, “Burning Moon Eclipse Party,” a total eclipse of the moon will turn it dark and glowing orange like a hot coal when local astronomers share telescope views with the public during the lunar eclipse, telescopes will view the moon and other interesting celestial targets during the evening. Sept. 29, Tuesday, 7pm, “Craig Ferguson,” a huge success of the North American comedy circuit, Emmy-Award winner Craig Ferguson has performed to sold-out theaters across the country and earned kudos as host of the White House Correspondents Dinner.
