Aug. 7, Friday, 7:30pm, “Salt Bay Chamberfest,” founded in 1995, Salt Bay Chamberfest has earned a reputation for making artistic statements of the first class. We believe that musical programs can be crafted in such a way that they highlight larger ideas, be they musical, historical, political, or generally human. Cutting across a large swath of musical styles, the programs at Chamberfest embrace music from the Renaissance to the present day and regularly feature the music of living composers. Rather than bringing an audience a sequence of performances, this kind of program creates an experience that can be thought-provoking and profoundly moving long after leaving the concert hall. Music featured on this evening’s program are Gyorgy Kurtag’s Selections from Jatekok, Schumann’s Andante and Variations, Ravel’s La Valse (for two pianos), and Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” Quartet, $30, $5/students with valid ID, admission includes concert and pre-concert lecture, Darrow’s Barn at Round Top Farm, 3 Round Top Lane, Damariscotta.
