July 25, Saturday, 8am-1pm, “Tough Mountain Challenge,” an adventure obstacle race that tackles alpine terrain and throws in natural and man-made challenges to mix things up. It’s just over 5K in length, but when you’re running up a mountain under an arsenal of snowguns or scrambling through a steep ravine it will feel much longer and live up to its name. The Tough Mountain Challenge is limited to 3,500 competitors which are spread out in heats throughout the day. For kids, we also run a Mini Mountain Challenge race. July 25, Saturday, 11am-2pm, “Chainsaw Wildlife Artists,” join 3 local Maine chainsaw carvers Ron Carlson, Tim Pickett & Andrew Logan as they use chainsaws to create eagles, bears & more. Watch a block of wood become a work of art. A variety of carvings will be on exhibit & for sale, $7.50/adults, $5.50/seniors and children, Maine Wildlife Park, 56 Game Farm Road, Gray. July 25, Saturday, 12-7pm, “Pleasant Mountain Music Fest,” family-friendly event featuring 7 bands including Dustin LaDale, John Ramsey and Fishbowl, bring along your Frisbees, or take a short hike up the mountain. There is a set up for a quick hot dog or hamburger meal and there’s a beer garden for the adults, all proceeds to be donated to the BCC Fuel Collaborative, no coolers or beverages can be brought into the concert area, lawn chairs and blankets welcome, $20, free/12 and under, Shawnee Peak Ski Resort, 119 Mountain Rd, Bridgton. July 25, Saturday, 7pm, “A Night of Broadway,” this show will feature local favorites Kelly Caufield, Bryan McLeod, Jennifer McLeod and Matthew Small-plus guest violinist Ashley Liberty-with Daniel Strange, musical director and pianist. July 26, Sunday, 12-4:30pm, “Open Farm Day Shaker Village,” more than 150 farms throughout the state of Maine join in this one day celebration of agriculture and farming. Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village may be the oldest farm in Maine still operated under the same management, since 1783. See Scottish highland cattle, a flock of more than 40 sheep, bees, barn cats, apple orchards, herb and vegetable gardens, many activities planned during the day including guided tours of the 1830 barn, free, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, 707 Shaker Road, New Gloucester.
