“37th Annual Founder’s Day & Classic Car Exhibit,” South Paris

July 16-19, Thursday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Thurs.-Sat, 5pm/Sun, “Annie Get Your Gun,” Annie Oakley is the best shot around and she manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. When she’s discovered by Col. July 17-19, Friday-Sunday, 9am/gates open, 9pm/gates close Fri. and Sat, 5pm/gates close Sun, “Waterford World’s Fair,” an old-time country fair that captures the simple, traditional essence of agricultural Maine. This fair features steer & oxen pull, steer & oxen show and scooting, draft horse pull and show, log hauling, 4-H steer show, contests, exhibits, tractor pulls, and entertainment, $6, free/5 and under, $3/senior citizens on Friday, Irving Green Road off Route 35, North Waterford. July 17-18, Friday-Saturday, 5:30pm/events begin Fri, “Lovell Old Home Days,” the weekend gets started Friday at the Athletic Field with the Kezar Trailbreakers Annual Turkey and Pig roast. The dinner runs between 5:30-7:30pm. On Saturday, a hearty breakfast will be served by the Masons at the Masonic Hall at 7am with a 9:45 5k race followed by a parade. Lots of games for kids, food booths, craft vendors, the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department, an Antique Boat Show and the Blue Willow Band, with Cow Chip Bingo at noon, Athletic Field, Lovell. July 17, Friday, 7:30pm, “Lettice & Lovate,” by Peter Shaffer, Lettice Douffet, tour guide, in one of the least stately homes of England loves to embellish the history behind the property in her charge. Her unorthodox style of interpreting history soon comes to the attention of Lotte Schoen, an inspector from the Preservation Trust. Neither impressed or entertained by Lettice’s freewheeling history lesson, Schoen fires her-but Lettice is not one to go without a fight, $22, Deertrees Theatre, 156 Deertrees Road, Harrison. July 18, Saturday, 9am-5pm, “37th Annual Founder’s Day & Classic Car Exhibit,” Founder’s Day festivities include music, entertainment and a crafts fair, the showpiece of the event is The Bahre Collection of antique cars. The collection, housed at the birthplace of Hannibal Hamlin, Abraham Lincoln’s first vice-president, is open once a year to the public at the Founder’s Day event. The collection of over fifty vehicles includes one of the world’s finest assemblages of Packards. July 18, Saturday 2-5pm, “How to Make Music Out of Anything,” an old newspaper, a dog’s squeaky toy, a rubber hammer: All these things and more become instruments in the hands of the fabulous minstrels of Roochie Toochie and the Ragtime Shepherd Kings. Come learn by doing as these troubadours spend an afternoon making, and then recording, an original song with you! Bring any odd assortment of noisemakers you may wish.
