July 10, 6:30pm/doors open 7pm/show, “They Came from Away,” one-man play written and performed by Trevor McKinven on tour from Montreal. The main character, a Newfoundlander named Johnny “Fever” McDermott, introduces three “come-from-awayers” who were among 6,500 plane passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, during the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The characters include an Italian, a Southern Belle named Sherry, and a New York firefighter from the Bronx, each of them in a bit of shock regarding the events, the geography, and the culture of Newfoundland, $10, Unity College Center for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot Street, Unity. July 10, Friday, 7:30pm, “String Quartet,” is a special concert featuring UMO violin professor, Anatole Wieck, and the Accent Quartet, program includes quartets and violin solos by Mozart and Borodin (the quartet featuring the famous adagio), as well as Copland’s Hoe-down from Rodeo and others, hosted by First Baptist Church in Bangor on Center Street, proceeds will go towards much-needed roof repairs for the over 100 year-old historical building which houses Bangor’s only surviving Tiffany stained glass window, reception following concert, $10, First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor.
