July 3-4, Friday-Saturday, events throughout the day, “Bridgton Independence Day Celebration,” begins on Friday on the grounds of the Stevens Brook School starting at 10am, includes crafters, food vendors, and a community band concert, fireworks on Friday begin at 9pm, Saturday kicks off with “the Four on the Fourth Race,” beginning at 8am, parade to follow at noon, downtown Bridgton. July 4, Saturday, events throughout the day, “Fourth of July Community Picnic & Portland Brass Quintet Concert,” includes a free two-hour concert, presentation of colors and the National Anthem beginning at 11:30am on the side lawn of the Dr. Moses Mason House, fireworks at the Sunday River Resort starting at 9pm, Downtown Bethe. July 4, Saturday, 10am-4:30pm., “Watch Our Wildlife Have Dinner,” visitors to the park always want to know what our wildlife eats and when, today, we will post hourly feeding times starting at 10AM, and then throughout the day, watch the bears, big cats, eagles, foxes, small mammals, coyote and moose munch on their lunch, Maine Wildlife Park, 56 Game Farm Road, Gray. July 4, Saturday, 11am-4pm, “Summer Living History Tours,” experience the heritage and culture of 19th-century Maine in unique, rural setting and witness the humble beginnings of Livermore’s Washburn Family, instrumental in changing the face of politics and business, visitors to the site are engaged by people, dressed in period clothing, who portray a local person, someone you might have met had you visited in 1800s, $10/adults, $6/ages 12 and under, $25/family rate, Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road, Livermore. July 4, Saturday, 1-4pm, “Scribner’s Mill Open House,” the 1847 Scribner’s Lumber Mill still produces and demonstrates the manufacture of barrels and shingles. It also has a display of the original sash saw works that produced dimensional lumber. The 1849 Homestead is interpreted as it was modernized in 1924 and tells the story of the Scribner family who operated this early industrial site, $5/donation adults, Mill and Homestead Tour, 244 Scribners Mills Road, Harrison. July 5, Sunday, 7:30pm, “Harold & Maude,” begins with an oldie but goodie, in this justly beloved screwball comedy about a spoiled young man obsessed with suicide, and a moribund old woman still radiating life, the inimitable Ruth Gordon received her third Academy Award nomination for her role as Maude, in English, ages 14 and up, post-screening discussion on current Maine-based death-with-dignity legislation led by activist Valery Lovelace, $5, Denmark Arts Center, 50 West Main St., Denmark. July 8, Wednesday, 8pm, “Wood Brothers,” Chris Wood had a scrap of a song — seemed like a chorus — scribbled in a notebook, he played it for his older brother, Oliver, who’d had a verse lying around he didn’t know what to do with, the two pieces, composed months apart, one in urban Atlanta and the other deep in the Catskills, dovetailed musically and lyrically, $37.50 pp, plus $4 handling fee, Stone Mountain Arts Center, 695 Dug Way Rd., Brownfield.
