Mar. 13-15, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat., 3:30pm/Sun., “Tick, Tick…BOOM!’” a musical look at the courage it takes to follow your dream, Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical tale of a young composer on the brink of turning 30 and falling into oblivion. This show takes you on the journey that led to the Broadway blockbuster, Rent. Mar. 14, Saturday, 8pm, “Cris Williamson & Melissa Ferrick,” decades before indie labels were the norm, and years before women had any real access to the industry, Cris Williamson was busy changing the face of popular music. Her music and voice quickly became the soundtrack of a movement, and was the cornerstone of what would become known as “women’s music,” music created, performed, and marketed specifically to women. Melissa Ferrick is an indie singer songwriter from Boston MA. She has released 17 albums over the last 20 years. The result is a raw, rootsy record set to a sweeping Americana/alt-country soundtrack that layers pedal steel guitars and background harmonies into some of the lushest, brightest songs of her 20-year career; special guests include fellow Berklee alum Paula Cole and Rose Polenzani, $30 plus a $4 service fee, Jonathan’s Restaurant, 92 Boune Lane, Ogunquit. Mar. 15, Sunday, 3pm, “Tom Dean and Pat Spalding,” Winter concert series, Tom Dean has played every major music venue in the Northeast and according to Independent-Song-Writer Magazine, he is simply one of the finest singer-songwriter-musicians walking the planet today. This concert will also feature locally renowned storyteller and puppeteer, Pat Spalding who speaks through gesture and words in a kinesthetic storytelling style. After touring the country for years with shows produced by her puppet company Ha’penny Theater, she has set aside the puppets to free her hands for unaccessorized storytelling. Mar. 17, Tuesday, 5:30pm, “Visiting Artist Series: Thomas Moser, Furniture Maker,” every March York County Community College invites a diverse array of artists to campus to discuss, demonstrate, exhibit and talk about their experiences as artists. Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers was founded forty years ago to restore the lost art of fine woodworking. In 1972, Tom Moser turned his woodworking hobby into a career and started making one-of-a-kind furniture in Maine. Mar. 17, Tuesday, 7pm, “Japan in Winter: A Crane and Sea-Eagle Spectacle,” Japan has several claims to fame as a travel destination, but relatively few people think of the country as a wildlife destination-in winter! Highlights of speaker Marie Jordan’s trip included thousands of Hooded and White-naped Cranes found on the fabulous island of Kyushu, third largest of Japan’s four islands, and the dancing Red-crowned Cranes and majestic Steller’s Eagles on the larger island of Hokkaido.
