“Maine Pond Hockey Classic,” Sidney

Feb. 5-7, Thursday-Saturday, 7pm, “Back to the 80’s: The Totally Awesome Musical,” transports the audience back to the high school days of the 1980’s. The show features the original music that was popular during the 80’s, presented by Gardiner Area High School Visual and Performing Arts Department, staged and directed by Steve Lerette and David Walker, seating is reserved, $10/adults, $5/seniors and students, Gardiner Area High School Little Theater, 40 West Hill Road, Gardiner. Feb. 6-8, Friday-Sunday, various times, “Maine Pond Hockey Classic,” pack your mittens, long johns, and ice skates and head out to Snow Pond to take in live hockey action by six divisions of players, of different age groups and ability levels, on ten rinks. There will be players coming from all over the Northeast and United States, competing in Open “A,” Open “B,” Women’s, Recreational, 40+, and “College” divisions. Warm up around one of the fire pits in the beer garden sponsored by The End Zone, open to anyone 21+. Throughout the tournament, spectators are invited to the “Up for Whatever” area, sponsored by Bud Light. Try your hand at cornhole, hockey puck curling, and shooting or skating competitions to win some great prizes. Don’t forget to pack your swimsuit, too. The Polar Bear Dip has a new home with the Maine Pond Hockey Classic and all proceeds will go towards the Kid’s Kitchen at the Alfond Youth Center, serving more than 40,000 hot meals a year to approximately 200 children. Feb. 6, Friday, 7pm, “Martin Swinger at the Union Coffeehouse,” presenting one of the finest entertainers in Maine, Martin Swinger, to brighten up your winter blues and put a smile on your pale, sun-starved faces, Martin is an up-tempo, cheerful, and funny Maine singer-songwriter who knows how to bring a bit of summer to a wintry time of year, following Martin’s performance, there will be an Open Mic hour to give all our winter songbirds a chance to sing out their pleas for an early Spring, come early to bid in a silent cake auction to benefit the Union Church Youth, refreshments are available, Union Church of Belgrade Lakes, 67 Main Street, Belgrade Lakes.
