July 10, Thursday, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., “Dexter Jenks and South Street,” South Street is a high-energy rock band that has had considerable success from Washington, DC to Atlanta, Georgia. Just off a two-week tour of the Virgin Islands, they’re bringing their infectious, original music to New England for the first time, Dexter Jenks, lead singer, is from Gorham, and is excited to introduce his band to the North East beginning in his home town, $10 per person, Spire 29, 29 School Street, Gorham. July 12, Saturday, 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., “Dolly Copp, Intrepid pioneer of White Mountains,” meet the intrepid White Mountains pioneer Dolly Copp (1808-1891), also known as the Belle of Bartlett, as portrayed by Carol Foord of Freedom, New Hampshire and Hiram, Maine, discover how this energetic and tough woman managed to survive difficult times to become a beloved local legend, she will recount how she and her husband Hayes carved a farmstead and inn from a wilderness grant in Pinkham Notch at the base of Mt. Washington. Even after the grand hotels were being built, patrons returned for her home-cooked meals and to purchase her sweet honey, maple sugar and her famous apple butter, a National Forest Campground on the site of the Copps’ homestead grant immortalizes the name Dolly Copp, free event, Hiram Historical Society, Rt. 17, off Schoolhouse Road, Hiram.
