Solidly Built Camp on Granny Kent Pond in Shapleigh, Maine

A classic lakefront camp on spring-fed Granny Kent Pond in Shapleigh, Maine is waiting to become your go-to spot this summer. Located at 34 Swan Circle, the camp is truly a step back in time, but is quite comfortable.

Guy’s family has owned the camp for 45 years. He tells us that they originally purchased it because “relatives were close neighbors at the time.” The family is no longer able to get to Shapleigh, so it’s time to sell.
Within the camp’s 1,504 square feet, you’ll find three bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and one full bath. The house includes a daylight basement.
Guy says that the property has “a 165-foot deep well with crystal clear water.  Also the property has been surveyed. And it has an up-to-date septic system. Metal roof and vinyl siding/windows make for low maintenance.” I don’t know about you, but easy care appeals to me when it comes to my getaway destination. Guy does mention that if he were to make any changes to the property, they would include landscaping and stonework. You might want to add your finishing touches, or leave it as it is.
The views are extraordinary–with evergreens and deciduous trees adding color to the lake and mountain backdrop. And then there are the sunsets, creating their own Kodak moments.
Set on a knoll overlooking Granny Kent Pond, the camp is close to the shoreline and the property’s 50 feet of water frontage. Guy says, “The entrance is shallow for young children to play in relative safety with no drop off. There is a gradual depth increase.”
Granny Kent Pond is 70 acres in size and has a maximum depth of 20 feet. If you like to fish, then you are in luck on Granny Kent, known for its outstanding fisheries of largemouth bass, white perch, yellow perch and chain pickerel.
Being a small pond means it’s quiet and serene. It’s also family friendly. “The camaraderie among neighbors bring lasting friendships and invitations for coffee ‘and,’ or pot luck dinners.  A campfire on the beach brings people together in the evenings. When the season ends, there are close neighbors who create a neighborhood watch,” says Guy.
On the property, you’ll glimpse the occasional chipmunk and red squirrels. From the beach, you can watch the loons and ducks. Nearby is the Newfield Wildlife Management Area and the Abbott Mountain Range. Trails are marked for hiking or snowshoeing and there are snowmobile trails.
As for favorite local spots, Guy suggests Bay Haven Seafood Restaurant in Cornish. Yearly trips include visits to Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach and the outlets in Biddeford. “It’s just far enough off the beaten path to enjoy rustic surroundings but near enough to enjoy southern Maine’s most popular destinations.”
I think you’ll agree that this is the way life in Maine should be–carefree living at the lake.
