Luxurious Lakefront Location on Thompson Lake in Poland, Maine

A luxurious lakefront home could be yours on Thompson Lake in Poland. Located at 187 Johnson Hill Road, this 10-room house is spacious and includes a bonus–a two-bedroom guest house.

The year-round house was built in 1984 and purchased by David and his family in 1997. As he tells us, one of their reasons for choosing the house was that they could add on it–which they did shortly after they purchased the property. The house encompasses 4,140 square feet.
The gourmet kitchen features granite counters, a six-burner stove, two sinks and ample cabinet space with all the necessary amenities. And views! Did we mention the jaw-dropping panoramic views of Thompson Lake. As David says, the views are “fabulous–right down to Potash Cove. They change daily with the seasons.”
It’s not just the kitchen that offers lake views–you can see Thompson Lake from almost every room in the house and there are ten rooms, including four bedrooms and three full baths. While the master suite, family room and an office/den are located downstairs, you’ll find three additional bedrooms and a loft room on the second floor.
One of our first thoughts when we look at a new property is where to put the Christmas tree. In this house, you’ll want to think 15-foot Christmas tree. Cathedral ceilings, sky lights and large windows are featured throughout.
A two-car garage is attached to the house–making it easy to carry in groceries, especially during the winter.
On this property, you’ll also find a second two-car garage with a two-bedroom/one bath guest house above. Your visitors will love spending time with you while having space to themselves.

The house is located in a tremendous setting. Follow the tree-lined driveway to the beautifully landscaped private yard. In the summer, enjoy your own sandy beach and dock, plus a sunny lawn. The flat lot encompasses over two acres with 439 feet of water frontage, providing plenty of place to play and spot wild life. David says they’ve identified “twenty-seven varieties of birds from eagles to hummingbirds and Baltimore orioles to scarlet tanagers.” Moose, deer and beavers have also been sighted.

Thompson Lake is rated one of the ten best lakes in Maine for water quality. The maximum depth of this 4,426-acre lake is 121 feet. The bottom can be seen to a depth of 35 feet. And while out on the lake, you’ll discover the view includes Mount Washington.
Looking back over the years, David says that the property easily accommodates large groups for BBQs and parties. Among his fond memories are watching the grandchildren learn to swim and ice skating under the moonlight. Another family favorite is to hop into the boat and head to the Outpost for pizza.
When they aren’t playing on the water, the family has enjoyed the short trip to Portland for concerts, plays and restaurants. The trip to Portland takes about 50 minutes and it’s the same to Freeport.

In less than an hour, they’ve also spent time skiing at Sunday River. A little further afield, but still worth the drive, you’ll find plenty of hiking trails in the White Mountains. And autumn isn’t complete without a trip to Harvest Hill Farms Pumpkin Land on Route 26 in Mechanic Falls–only minutes from the house.
You may be thinking of this as your getaway destination or year-round home. If it is year-round, know that Poland has a great school system.
While they love this house, David and his family have decided to build a larger home–also on Thompson Lake in Poland. After all, location is key and this location is turnkey. Take a look.
