Small Year-Round House on Pristine and Private Stearns Pond, Sweden, Maine

Nestled among the pines that surround Stearns Pond in Sweden, Maine is a back-to-basics house you must view. The year-round house is located off the beaten path at 123 Buker Road.

Joan’s family purchased the property in the 1950s. It’s here that they made  memories that last a lifetime. They are sad to be selling the house that was left to the family after their parents passed away, but . . . Joan and family own their own place on the pond, so they continue to enjoy all that Stearns Pond means. They still have friends they made over 50 years ago–and continue to make memories.
The 816-square-foot house features one-floor living. It was completely updated five or six years ago. Just steps from the water, the house has four rooms, including two bedrooms. Lots of windows means lots of natural light plus splendid views of the pond. “The views are awesome,” says Joan. “You look at the lake, which is bordered by the mountains . . .”
With 170 feet of water frontage, there’s plenty of space for family and friends to gather. Cookouts. Swimming. Boating. Campfires. Relaxing. You can do it all here. As Joan says, “Sitting on the dock watching the birds or the kids play in the water, or reading a book on a beautiful day tops just about anything.”
The septic system is located on a back lot. The back lot does have a twenty-foot right-of-way to the water and includes a restriction of no docks or permanent structures to be built on it.
If you are looking to slow down and enjoy life the way it’s meant to be, then this is the property for you. Stearns Pond is deep, beautiful and pristine–and very private. With a surface area of 248 acres, it has a maximum depth of 48 feet and a mean depth of 27 feet. The water quality is average.
You may see trout jumping, families of loons and ducks, bald eagles, snowshoe hare, whitetail deer, and of course, the majestic Maine moose!
Camp Encore/Coda, a residential music camp for boys and girls, is located among the pines on the eastern shore of Stearns Pond. Sometimes you’ll be treated to the sweet sound of live music wafting through the air.
The village of Sweden is tucked into the rolling hills between Lovell, Bridgton and Waterford. It’s only a short distance from anywhere, but feels like another world. Located 3 1/2 hours from Boston, Stearns Pond is 1 1/2 hours northwest of Portland.
When asked if they’d change anything about this property, Joan responds, “Nothing. Love it . . .”
Joan’s final words of advice: “For anyone looking to purchase property on a lake, we feel that there is nothing that can compare to a smaller lake than the quietness and fond memories you will have forever with family and friends.”
Let this small house take you back to a time when days were simple and life was just somehow less stressful. Live or vacation here and you’ll find yourself constantly asking, “Is this real?”
