Lakefront House Overlooks Silver Lake in Shapleigh, Maine

It’s all about the beach at this lakefront property for sale on Silver Lake in Shapleigh. Located at 6 Breezy Cove Road, the two-story house is also delightful, with lots of different features, but the beach is where you’ll want to spend most of your time.
The property has one hundred feet of frontage on the lake. The sandy beach is as great as any you’d find at the ocean. Imagine you and your family or friends playing beach volleyball, building sand castles or just spending hours lying in the sun. (Ariel is not necessarily included.)
A flat yard sits between the house and beach. Step inside the 1,380 square-foot, year-round house and on the first floor you’ll find a living room with a fireplace, dining room and galley-like kitchen. Large windows bring the outdoors in, so you can enjoy gorgeous views of the lake. There’s also a sleeping porch and a small room that could serve as a den, office or sewing room. Tucked into the wall is hide-away ironing board. A washer and dryer are located in the bathroom.

At the top of the stairs, you’ll find two bedrooms–one to the left and the other to the right. Straight ahead is the master bedroom suite with a half bath. The master bedroom encompasses the full width of the front of the house. There’s also a second floor porch, which also provides stunning lake views. According to the current owner, Bob, “The view of the lake is amazing, you can see about 70% of the whole lake from beach, and the lower deck and upper balcony.” Think early morning coffee, late afternoon tea, or a moonlit evening cocktail.
Bob and his wife purchased the house in 2004 and they wouldn’t change anything. They’re only leaving because they are ready to retire to a warmer climate. He notes that there’s “Plenty of room in the house, and plenty of space outside around the property from the side yard, the beach, or the lake itself to have tons of fun.” A two-car garage is attached to the house and there is a storage shed on the property as well.
But let’s get back to that to-die-for beach. There’s a fire pit and a long dock leading out to the lake. Bob tells us, “The main reason that our family purchased the lake house was the location. The large beach in front of the house was a big draw; there really was no other lake house that we looked at that had such a large beach.”
Silver Lake has a surface area of 166 acres. The maximum depth is 17 feet and the principal fisheries are largemouth bass, white perch, yellow perch and chain pickerel. One of the best features of the lake is that there is no public boat access, therefore, in order to experience the beauty of this lake, you have to live on it.  Each year the Silver Lake Association sponsors a gathering called the “Sizzle.” There’s also a boat parade. And boaters often meet in the middle of the lake to swim at the sandbar.
Many Shapleigh properties survived the fire of 1947 and still stand today, thus making this a charming and historic town. From fishing, swimming and boating to hiking and snowmobiling, exploring the Acton/Shapleigh Historical Museum or venturing onto a haunted road, there’s plenty to do here. For dirt bike and ATV enthusiasts, trails are within easy reach of 6 Breezy Cove Road.
And the amenities of Sanford are close by. Bob’s recommendations for great local spots to get a meal, drinks, or supplies include the following: Bay Haven Two Lobster Pound in Cornish, Boonies (convenience store) in Shapleigh, the Acton fairgrounds, and Blueberry Hill, where you can pick fresh high-bush blueberries. If you really need to get some groceries,  the local Hannafords is under 20 minutes away.
The property is located two hours from Boston and just under an hour from Portland. Shapleigh is only minutes from Kittery, York and Kennebunkport. When you purchase this lakefront property, you’ll soon be enjoying the beachfront lifestyle.
