Sept. 20, Friday, 7:30-8:30pm, “Thumbscrew,” Thumbscrew (Mary Halvorson, guitar, Michael Formanek, bass and Tomas Fujiwara, drums), is a new collective band featuring compositions by all three members, fusing jazz, rock and experimental styles. Since the band’s debut in March of 2012, the trio has continued to perform regularly, developing an original book of music and a strong band sound. Sept. 20-21, Friday and Saturday, 7:30pm, “Rent,” musical, based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult due to sexual content, adult themes and language, $10-$15, Waldo Theatre, Waldoboro. Sept. 21, Saturday, 2-3:15pm, “Rick Charette Live in Concert!” from school classrooms, gyms and auditoriums, concert venues large and small, parks, fairgrounds, campgrounds (and even a parade float!) Rick shares his songs that delight in the joys of childhood. From school-age children and preschoolers to grownups who first heard the songs when they were kids, his audiences are all inclusive and where the whole family has fun, doors open 30 minutes prior to performance times, $8-12/on line, $3 more at the door, The Freeport Theater of Awesome.
