Chalet in Wooded Setting Near Moose Pond, Bridgton, Maine

Downhill and water skiing are only moments away from this contemporary chalet located in the Knights Hill lakefront community on Moose Pond in Bridgton, Maine. The turn-key house at 16 Algonquin Lane is set among wooded surroundings, making it very private in this 200-home community on the northwest shore of Moose Pond.

Built in 2003, the 2,504 square-foot house offers plenty of living space for an active family. The first floor features an open concept kitchen, dining area and living room with a cathedral ceiling and wood stove. Lots of windows bring the outdoors in. Rene and Dave, the current owners, have seen fox and deer on numerous occasions over the years.

A breakfast bar separates the kitchen from the dining area. Also on the first floor, you’ll find a master bedroom suite with a 3/4 bath, and two more bedrooms, plus an additional bathroom with a tub.
Climb to the second floor loft and you’ll feel like you are living in the tree tops. It’s a perfect spot to relax and maybe even do some bird watching. A fourth bedroom is located here–it currently has two sets of bunk beds. The loft and bedroom would make a great space for weekend guests.
In the full basement, you can easily create a family room/game room, man cave or even a woman cave! Set up a pool table or ping pong table. Add some sleeper couches for those weekend guests and put a TV on the wall. Maybe you’d like to add a few book cases and maybe storage bins for weekend crafts. The possibilities are endless.
There are several other features to note. A large mudroom easily accommodates a family of 4 to 6–place a bench in the center to sit on as you put on or take off your ski boots. Shaker peg ski racks will hold your skis and poles. Use this space for all of your winter and summer outdoor equipment and you never have to take it into the house.
Along the length of the house is a screened porch. It’s a huge space–perfect for a long Monopoly game on a rainy day. And there’s also an outdoor deck, which offers space to grill and dine.
The resort-style ski/lakefront community requires membership in the Knights Hill Association. Association fees include many amenities such as a large in-ground and kiddie pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, a large sandy beach on Moose Pond, children’s playground, volleyball, outdoor grills, picnic tables, swimming area and raft, boat slips, kayak and canoe racks and the Bullwinkle Clubhouse. Members also participate in several annual events and enjoy discounts at some local businesses. From the house, it’s only a short walk to the beach. The pool and clubhouse can be reserved in advance for family reunions and other large gatherings.
Rene tells us, “Our kids have grown up skiing on Shawnee Peak and boating on Moose Pond.  We love the families that we have met through Knights Hill Association and are sure that they will be life-long friends.  There is always someone down the beach for our kids to play with. There is always a wiffle ball game, volleyball game or fishing off the dock happening down at the beach.”
Shawnee Peak Ski Area is a mile away–Maine’s longest operating ski resort. Rene says they love to ski and hike Shawnee Peak and Pleasant Mountain, boat on Moose Pond, travel to North Conway and take a drive to the Naples Causeway for restaurants and ice cream.
She describes the view of Moose Pond as spectacular. “Also,” she says, “it is a very quiet and peaceful lake without a great deal of boat traffic.” Though it’s called a pond, Moose Pond is eleven miles long, one-mile wide at its widest point, covers 1,617 acres and has three basins. All three basins are favorites for anglers, boaters and swimmers.
About a dozen small islands dot the northern basin, where Knights Hill is located,  making it perfect for picnicking while watching wildlife including heron, red-winged blackbirds, kingfishers, song birds, muskrats, beaver, deer, a variety of fish, and more. You might catch a glimpse of a red fox hunting along the edge of the pond, moose grazing in the shallow waters dining on water lilies and pickerel weed and a bald eagle flying overhead. Certainly, you’ll see plenty of fish jumping.
