Schoodic Lake, Brownville, Maine: Trophy Fishing From Your Lakefront Property

Clouds Reflect on Crystal Clear Water of Schoodic Lake

Schoodic Lake in Brownville, Maine, is known as a getaway destination by lakefront property owners. The year-round beauty of the lake and mountains will beckon you to return over and over again to the Gateway to Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park.

The lake covers 7,021 acres and has a maximum depth of 188 feet with a mean depth of 79 feet. The water quality is above average in this spring-fed, crystal clear lake. No known aquatic invasive plants have been found.
This is one of the Maine’s premiere trophy fishing lakes. What kind of fish will I catch in Schoodic Lake? Togue (lake trout), smallmouth bass and landlocked salmon form the principal fishery. Each winter an ice fishing derby is held here.
Is there a boat launch? Yes, it’s located at Knight’s Landing.
The lake is ten miles long and two miles wide so there’s plenty of space for water sports like swimming, fishing, water skiing and canoeing or kayaking. Bird and moose watchers will surely be treated to some spectacular views. And for the photographer in your group–look north for views of Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak.
Other recreational opportunities to enjoy in the area include golfing, hiking, white water rafting, hunting, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. The roads around the lake are dirt and receive little traffic so they’re great for biking and walking.
Brownville is a small town in the Maine Highlands, made up of two villages–Brownville Junction and Knight’s Landing. Hikers on the 100-Mile Wilderness section of the Appalachian Trail pass nearby. The General Store & More is located on Route 11 and sells a little bit of everything, including hunting, fishing and camping equipment, groceries, gas and automotive supplies, and cooked to order breakfast, lunch and dinner. At The Junction, Maine’s largest outdoor entertainment and music park, you can take in concerts or watch a movie in the large Pine Theatre.
Day trips might find you venturing away from the lake to Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park, Borestone Mountain, Screw Auger Falls at Gulf Hagas, Acadia National Park and Moosehead Lake.
If you are looking for a great place to get back in touch with yourself and nature, consider a classic Maine camp, cabin or cottage on Schoodic Lake. It’s the perfect place to develop cherished memories.
