Charming Four Season Lakefront Home For Sale near Bethel, Maine

Songo Pond Provides Perfect Setting For Sweet Waterfront Home

Songo Pond in Albany Township provides the perfect setting for a traditional Maine waterfront ski  house. It’s near the Bethel Inn and Country Club and only ten minutes from Sunday River Ski Resort and Mt. Abrams Ski Area.

This year-round 1,077 square-foot lakefront cottage at 754 Songo Pond Road has a kitchen, living room and master bedroom on the first floor, with two bedrooms on the second floor. The full basement is unfinished. An enclosed wrap-around porch provides expansive views of Songo Pond.
The present owners purchased the property in 2002, when their children were toddlers. Since then, they’ve made many renovations and updates including a new heating system, new seamless metal roof, new kitchen cabinets and countertops, new fence, new paint inside and out and they’ve fully insulated the house. It’s truly a turn-key property.
Their children are now teenagers and have grown up swimming in the pond, tubing behind their motorboat, skiing at Sunday River and other nearby ski areas, playing board games and building puzzles on the porch, walking around the lake or across it–depending on the season, and fishing from the dock and shoreline. “They’ve done everything you’d want to do at a waterfront property or ski home–it’s all in one!” say the owners.
At 1 square mile, Songo Pond covers 196 acres and has a maximum depth of 25 feet with a mean depth of 9 feet. The owners describe it as the “‘perfect’ compromise between a small pond and a large lake. It has the benefits of a small pond with minimal boat traffic, is safe for kayaks, canoes and swimming, is peaceful and beautiful. Because it isn’t as deep as a large lake, it is warm enough to swim in from early June to October. At the same time, though, it is big enough for motorboats.” They love to tube and waterski.
Not only does this pristine lake make this sweet lakefront home a special place, but also it’s locale. There’s plenty to do when you aren’t spending time on the water. Hike the Albany Mountains or in the White Mountain National Forest. Ride to the summit of Sunday River on the Chondola. Bike the 14 mile Route 5/35 and Vernon Street Loop, which will bring you beside Songo Pond. Try a dog sled ride. Ski at Sunday River, Mt. Abram or Shawnee Peak. Play golf at Sunday River Resort and Bethel Inn or cross-country ski at Carters, Sunday River and the Bethel Inn. For a night on the town, the owners recommend Sud’s Pub, Rooster’s Roadhouse and Sunday River Brewing Company. They also remind us that there’s always something going on in Bethel–from art fairs and Winter Carnival to Mollyockett Days and road races. Horseback rides, waterslides, sleigh rides–it’s all right here. But the best part–at the end of the day you can return to your lakefront house and sit on the porch sipping a glass of wine while listening to the loons and watching the stars sparkle on the water.
So why are the current owners selling the property? “We love the area so much that we will be building a house on the northeast shore of the pond.  We have already purchased a piece of land and are just waiting for the perfect buyer to buy this house.  We will be sorry to say goodbye to it, but are hoping that it will be purchased by someone that will love the lake, the house and the area as much as we do.
