Lakefront Property For Sale on Lake Anasagunticook
Also known as Canton Lake, Lake Anasagunticook is three miles long, one mile wide, covers 568 acres and has a maximum depth of 54 feet. The water quality is deemed average for this spring-fed lake.
Brown trout, smallmouth bass, white perch and pickerel are the principle fisheries in Lake Anasagunticook.A new dam is being built at the outlet to Whitney Brook in Canton. It’s located 120 feet upstream from the former Tannery Dam structure. The Tannery Dam was originally constructed for use by a former mill. It’s believed that the first dam at this site was built around 1849.
Along with the new dam, plans call for a public boat ramp, municipal park and green space on adjacent property in the center of Canton on Route 140. This southern shore of the lake is fondly referred to as “The Beach” by locals.
The opposite shoreline is located in the small Oxford County town of Hartford, where Lake Anasaguniticook is the largest and only lake!
The Lake Anasagunticook Association (LAA), led by President William “Biff” Atwater, has taken an active role in the dam project. LAA describes itself as being “In the Heart of the Hills.” The hills include The Saddleback, Trask Mountain, Jewett Hill and others. All provide a beautiful backdrop to your lakefront property.
At least 26 properties on the lake have been certified and received LakeSmart awards. To become LakeSmart savvy means signing up for an evaluation by an official from DEP or Oxford County Soil and Water. The official will make an appointment to walk around your property and suggest ways to prevent soil erosion, minimize runoff into the lake and grow more native plants.
If or when your property passes the LakeSmart survey you will be awarded a plaque for inside your camp or home and a sign to proudly display outside on your property.
Situated in these small villages only 20 miles north of Lewiston and Auburn, Lake Anasagunticook provides the perfect setting for quiet relaxation, although amenities are close by. Pack your bathing suit and head to this area of the Sebago Lakes Region of Maine to search for waterfront real estate, e.g. a camp, cottage or cabin. You’ll be glad you did.

Bryant Pond Lakefront Real Estate Accentuated by Picturesque Sunsets and Towering Norway Pines
September 20th, 2011 categories: Belgrade Lakes Region
Quiet Morning on Bryant Pond in Oxford County, Maine
Bryant Pond, also known as Lake Christopher, is the largest of the ponds in the Maine Lakes and Mountains towns of Greenwood and Woodstock. The pond covers 278 acres and has a maximum depth of 63 feet. It’s located only minutes from Sunday River and Mt. Abram Ski Resorts.
The mixture of rocky and sandy shoreline make it popular amongst anglers who catch coldwater fish species including smelt, landlocked salmon and brook trout here. A public boat ramp is located next to the outlet at Rowe Hill Road.
From your lakeside getaway on the pond you’ll enjoy views of Mt. Abram and the surrounding hills and mountains.
The Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center, formerly the Maine Conservation School, is located on Bryant Pond.
Bryant Pond achieved some national fame in the mid-1970s when its family-owned Bryant Pond Telephone Company became the last hand-cranked telephone exchange in operation in the United States. In 1981 the local company, operating from a switchboard in the living room of owners Barbara and Elden Hathaway, was purchased by the Oxford County Telephone & Telegraph Company. Despite a valiant effort to keep the hand-cranked phones, the last “crank” calls were placed on October 11, 1983. From that point forward phone service has been through a modern dial exchange (207-665). To commemorate the crank phone, a 14-foot tall monument was erected on a village green beside Route 26.
Check out this statue, and a couple of other oddities including a three-story outhouse and giant butterfly sculpture when you look for waterfront property along the shore of Bryant Pond.
