Will Rhys brings “A Christmas Carol” alive on stage at Bridgton Academy
As a benefit performance for the Lakes Environmental Association (LEA), actor Will Rhys will present his rendition of the Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.” In this one man show, Rhys will use a bare stage and a minimum of props to evoke 19th century London and the world of Ebenezer Scrooge. With a couple of chairs, a stool and a lectern, he’ll transport the audience from Scrooge’s Counting House to the Cratchit homestead, from Fezziwig’s party to the “farthest ship at sea,” and beyond as Scrooge journeys from the darkness of hurt and anger into the light of redemption and joy.
Will Rhys will present “A Christmas Carol” at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 17 on the stage of the Bridgton Academy Chapel. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets are available at LEA and at the door.
The Lakes Environmental Association is the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region’s best bet when it comes to the protection of our most valuable natural resource, our water. LEA is a non-profit organization, which conducts comprehensive water testing on area lakes, leads the fight against milfoil, teaches children and adults about the importance of protecting the watersheds and offers technical assistance to landowners, contractors and municipalities. For 40 years, LEA “has been dedicated to the belief that people will take care of Maine’s lakes if only they realize just how valuable and fragile [the lakes] are.”
“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach. Oh, tell me I may sponge away the writing on this stone!” ~Ebenezer Scrooge, “A Christmas Carol”
