The Lakes Regions of Maine Hosts Holiday Music

Musical offerings abound in the Lakes Region of Maine this holiday season.  One such concert you won’t want to miss will be performed at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston and First Congregational Church in South Paris. Anyone who appreciates dedicated and talented performers will surely enjoy this Heritage Christmas Concert offered by the Maine Music Society.

Founded in 1991, the Maine Music Society “was organized to support the artistic and educational activities of the professional players of the Maine Music Society Orchestra and the Androscoggin Chorale.” This year’s Heritage Christmas Concert will be a collaboration of the 60-voice Androscoggin Chorale and the Edward Little High School Chamber Choir, directed by Beth LaBrie.

The program will open with “Hodie Christus Natus Est (Today Christ is Born),” a short piece in the tradition of Gregorian Chant. Listen for Kevin Seigfried’s “I Sing of a Maiden” and “Be We Merry,” arranged by Steven Sarmiz. You’ll also hear “Carol of the Bells” and “Ding Dong Merrily on High” along with “It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas,” and an updated version of “Up on the Rooftop.” There’s much more in this concert that offers the perfect mix of traditional holiday favorites and lesser known gems. The evening will conclude with the audience chiming in to sing Christmas Carols along with the Chorale and Choir.

The Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston will host the concert on December 11 at 7:30 p.m. and December 12 at 3 p.m. Before, during intermission and after both of these performances there will be a silent auction in the social hall to help underwrite the cost of concerts. Refreshments and an open bar will be available as you peruse the items and submit bids.
