Belgrade Lakes Region Offers Excellent Cold Water Fishery

The Belgrade Lakes Region has been a consistently good draw for fishermen seeking excellent cold water species like salmon, lake trout (togue), and brown trout.
As I was looking around the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website recently I found a lot of great information about where to fish. Here are some of the suggestions given by these experts:
For lake trout, otherwise known as togue, try Echo Lake in Vienna. Good sized togue have come out of here and the lake is stocked with salmon, splake and brook trout, as well. Trailered boat access is on the north end off Rte 41. Sheepscot Pond in Palermo is another suggestion for lake trout. It also has wild trout and salmon and trailered boat access is found on the north end off Rte. 3. Other possibilities include Wassookeag Lake in Dexter with trailered boat access off Rte. 23, Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson with trailered boat access on the west side off Rte. 213, and Maranacook Lake in Winthrop, which has an in-town public launch site.
There are several places given for good landlocked salmon fishing. Long Pond in Belgrade has a reputation for great salmon fishing. There’s a trailered boat access off Castle Island Road. Also try the Upper and Lower Narrows Pond in Winthrop, where you can also catch good sized lake trout and brook trout. There’s boat access in the Lower Narrows. Both Parker Pond in Vienna and Swan Lake in Swanville are also mentioned for salmon, but are also listed as great spots for brook trout, as well.
For those of you who like fishing for brown trout try Great Pond in Belgrade – the big water body in the area. Trailered boat access is available off Rte.27. Also mentioned is Alford Lake in Hope, which has access off Rte 235.
That’s the round up for cold water fishing in the Belgrade Lakes Region. We’ll soon take a look at where all the bass fishing is taking place.
